A 37-year-old woman was Friday murdered in her house here during a robbery attempt, police said.
The victim was identified as Sanjeeta Hooda, a housewife.
"Four to five men entered the house on Friday at around 8 a.m. and strangled her to death," a senior police officer told IANS.
The victim's mother-in-law Sumitra saw some people running out of the house when she returned from her morning walk. She confronted the robbers but was also attacked and left injured.
She said she cried for help and some people tried to chase the attackers but the assailants managed to flee.
She found Sanjeeta lying on the bed, her hands, legs and mouth tied with cloth and rope. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.
"Prima facie, the matter seems to be a robbery attempt, but we are also investigating if there was a family dispute as the victim had no children after more than 15 years of marriage," the officer said.
