The teachings of Guru Ghasidas have given direction to social reforms not only in the Satnami Samaj but in entire Chhattisgarh, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday.
Kovind visited the Guru Ghasidas Jaitkham and attended 'bhoomi pujan' for a community centre at Girodhpuri.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Guru Ghasidas was a remarkable social reformer of this region almost 200 years ago.
"Guru Ghasidas struggled against social evils and injustice and fought for the poor and downtrodden. He made efforts to eliminate untouchability, and emphasised fraternity and social harmony. He also stood for women's rights and supported widow remarriage," Kovind said.
The President expressed confidence that by imbibing the ideals of Guru Ghasidas, the people and the government of Chhattisgarh would continue to work to build a society based on equality and unity.
