Gurugram, also known as the millennium city, on Friday got a postal challan compounding branch to punish traffic rules violators, police said.
Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar on Friday inaugurated the city's first postal challan and two new e-challan compounding branches to deal with traffic violators under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Postal challan (ticket) and e-challan branches started operating from the old CP office on Sohna road here.
The second e-challan branch has been setup in Manesar's sub-registrar building here on Delhi-Jaipur National Highway 8.
Khirwar said that one can click photographs of any traffic rule offender and send them to postal challan branch through whatsApp on phone number 9999981800 or email it to pcbranchggm@gmail.com, adding that the registration number and offence of violator must be clear in the clicked photos.
"A legal notice will be served to owner of vehicle found violating traffic rules and will be asked to reply in writing within a week that who was on the wheels of the vehicle during the violation," Khirwar said.

"Such owners who will not reply, will be declared guilty and will be punished under MV Act 1988, with Rs 1,000 fine, three months jail or both," he added.
Earlier, police had only one challaning branch in the Sushant Lok area of New Gurugram.
Several senior police officers, including Joint commissioner of Police Sibash Kabiraj and DCP (traffic) Balbir Singh, were present on the occasion.
