Hamburg have sacked coach Bert van Marwijk and assistant Roel Coumans with immediate effect, the German club said in an official statement.
After eight defeats in a row and a free fall into the relegation zone the struggling Bundesliga side discharged the coaching staff from its duties Saturday, reports Xinhua.
"We were forced to make this decision, although we regret it. We thank Bert van Marwijk for his work," Hamburg director of sports Oliver Kreutzer said.
Hamburg is the only club in the Bundesliga to have never been relegated in to the second division. However, sitting in 17th position with only 16 points from 21 matches makes them one of the favourites for the fall.
