In a span of 10 days, 35 artists have got together to display their artworks, centred around the theme "happiness", for a fundraising exhibition to rebuild Uttarakhand.
The exhibition, "A Brand New Day", will be held at the Indian August gallery in Noida from July 20 to Aug 5. It is curated by Ravi Dhingra who admits there is no link between the photographs and artworks on display and the Uttarakhand tragedy.
"This exhibition is a way of extending support to rebuild the state. There is a lot of damage done and as an artist I felt we too need to contribute," Dhingra told IANS.
"As word about this idea spread, I received overwhelming response from various artists. This shows how everyone in this country wants to contribute," he added.
Last month's 'Himalayan tsunami' killed hundreds of people and thousands went missing. While houses were uprooted, bridges and roads were destroyed or washed away by landslides and gushing rivers.
Dhingra knew there was very little time to do something for Uttarakhand. Hence, the brief given to all the artists was to display happy, feel-good photographs and paintings.

There is a glimpse of nature through mountains, flowers and wildlife along with expressions of joy on the faces of people, dancing on the streets.
One artist, Moushumee K Jha's three photographs - all showing women in different moods - will be on display.
"I didn't want to show nature. The photographs displayed here show different shades of women and how happy they are with life," she said.
The money collected will go to a non-profit organisation, Goonj, undertaking relief operation in the affected regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
