Following the approval from the central government, the Haryana government started paddy procurement in the state from Thursday itself, an official said.
The paddy procurement has been advanced by one week, said a food and supplies department spokesman.
Paddy procurement was earlier scheduled to begin from October 1.
"The union government has acceded to the request of the Haryana government to start paddy procurement from September 24 instead of October 1. Following this decision, the procurement of paddy has started today in Haryana mandis and will continue up to December 15," the spokesman said.
Haryana has set a target of procurement of 35 lakh tonnes of paddy this season at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs.1,410 per quintal and Grade-A at MSP of Rs.1,450 per quintal.
