Social activist Anna Hazare's life-size statue installed in the posh Civil Lines area here was beheaded in the early hours Saturday, an activist said.

Last year, Hazare had written to the then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh, seeking his help in the installation of his statue here.

Hazare had written that the party's Haryana spokesperson Umesh Aggarwal (now BJP candidate from Gurgaon assembly seat), was putting obstacles in the way of the installation of the statue.

The activist wrote: "Gurgaon Police arrested four activists from the Anna camp on a fake complaint filed by Aggarwal."

He wrote the letter Dec 29, 2013 from his hometown Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra.

Hazare said: "Though I am against installing my own statue, an activist with me, P.L. Kataria, and his team are keen on installing the statue at a crossing (chowk) in Gurgaon. I request you (Rajnath) to help Kataria."
