The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Central government to file reply on the plea seeking ban on using of photos of President, Prime Minister and other persons holding constitutional positions in private advertisements.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar asked the Central government and Press Council of India to file response on the plea and listed the matter for February 19 for further hearing.
The court was hearing an application filed by Delhi resident Ajay Gautam who was sought framing of guidelines for private advertisers, contending that advertisements which depict messages and photos of the President, the Prime Minister, Governors and Chief Ministers misguide the public at large.
"... such advertisements claim support of the persons holding constitutional posts. In this manner, lakhs and crores of citizens are exploited by such ads which depict messages and photos of the persons holding constitutional posts," the plea said.
