The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday directed the state Chief Electoral Officer to inform it about the action initiated against the political parties and candidates who pasted posters on public properties in Shimla.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel passed the order on a petition by one Deven Khanna.
Khanna has stated that according to media reports, some political parties have launched a special wall writing campaign across the state.
According to him, the political parties are painting every possible place with their slogans and appeals for vote.
Writing on the walls of government properties is prohibited under the Himachal Pradesh Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement Act) of 1985.
During the hearing, the petitioner brought it to the notice of the court that candidates and political parties had violated the orders passed by this court.
