Madrid, July 11 (IANS/EFE) Spanish football club Real Madrid has appointed former captain Fernando Hierro as the new assistant coach for the 'Los Blancos'.
Hierro will replace French great Zinedine Zidane as head coach Carlo Ancelotti's assistant, reports Efe.
Hierro, who left the club in 2003 to play in Qatari league, is back to assist Ancelotti in directing Real Madrid next season.
The 46-year-old defender joined 'Los Blancos' in 1989, playing 601 games and scoring 130 goals in addition to winning five Spanish leagues, three Champions Leagues and one Spanish King's Cup as well as representing the Spanish national team on 89 occasions, scoring 29 goals.
