A highway robber has been arrested for the murder of a Haryana businessman during a robbery attempt in west Delhi, police said on Monday.
Police said Vijay, a resident of Jahangirpuri slums, had murdered Ambala resident Ashok, 55, at Nangli village on the GT Karnal Road on October 29 while he was waiting for transport to ferry his goods to Ambala.
Vijay was arrested late Sunday night when he arrived near Buddpur bus stand near the Grand Trunk Road. He is involved in over 10 cases of robbery in Badli, GT Karnal road and Jahangirpuri areas, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal said.
Police have recovered Ashok's mobile phone from his possession.
"On the fateful night, Vijay and his accomplice accosted Ashok and a carrier driver accompanying him. The accused robbed the driver of cash and mobile phone at knifepoint but Ashok resisted their robbery attempt. Infuriated, Vijay fatally stabbed Ashok and escaped.
