As a goodwill gesture, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has decided to sponsor the undergraduate degree course in medicine of a girl student who belongs to a poor family, an official said here Saturday.
Kavita, a resident of Kunihar in Solan district, called on Virbhadra Singh here Friday and apprised him about the poor financial condition of her family.
She told the chief minister that she has been selected to pursue MBBS at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College at Tanda in Kangra district and urged him to provide financial assistance for pursuing the degree, a government spokesperson told IANS.
The chief minister assured her that the expenses of her studies would be borne by the state government.
