A novel reproductive health device has won HLL Lifecare Ltd (HLL), a leading provider of a wide range of contraceptives, this year's National Award for Technology Innovation in the healthcare sector.
The intrauterine device (IUD) is a highly effective and convenient method of contraception. IUDs are small devices made of flexible plastic that contain copper or a natural hormone, progestin, the company said.
Thiruvananthapuram-headquartered HLL, a public sector unit under the union health and family welfare ministry, got a citation and a cash of Rs.two lakh as the award.
The device has been developed by Abi Santhosh Aprem, a senior scientist, and his team at HLL's Corporate Research and Development Centre.
The National Award for Technology Innovation recognises meritorious innovations and inventions in various fields.
