The Hong Kong government Monday announced cancellation of National Day fireworks Oct 1.
Protests have been taking place in various areas in Hong Kong, occupying some of the main roads, Xinhua reported.
Protesters called for withdrawal of the decision on Hong Kong's constitutional development made Aug 31 by the National People's Congress Standing Committee.
The government said in view of the latest situation, it is anticipated that main roads leading to hot spots for viewing the fireworks display may continue to be seriously affected.
The National Day fireworks display was scheduled to take place from Victoria Harbour.
