Hurricane Max has made landfall in Mexico's Guerrero state, weather officials said.

The Category 1 hurricane, which has sustained winds of 130 kph, made landfall at around 4 p.m. on Thursday evening near the town of Pico del Monte, reports Efe news.

Max was located roughly 90 km east-southeast of Acapulco and moving eastward at 13 kph, according to the latest bulletin.

The storm is bringing heavy rains, strong winds and storm surge to Guerrero, Oaxaca and Michoacan states.

Max has the potential to dump as much as 250 mm of rain in parts of Guerrero, according to the national weather service, which forecast that the system would weaken to a tropical storm by Friday morning.

Oaxaca was the state hardest hit by the 8.2-magnitude earthquake that rocked southern Mexico on September 7. So far, 98 people have been confirmed dead.
