Nishka Lulla has inherited her mother Neeta's fashion designing talent, but the young designer says she can't imitate her National Award-winning mom's designs despite being an inspiration to her.
"I have learned a lot from my mother and one of them is hard work. She said that you have to work hard to make your own mark," Nishka told IANS on the sidelines of the opening day of India Resortwear Fashion Week 2013, Thursday.
"She also suggested that my designs need to have a definition of myself without imitating someone else. For instance, I can't imitate my mother's creation and make my own line," she added.
The designer, whose creations have been flaunted by the likes of Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin, showcased her resort wear line that she designed for an e-commerce site Stylista.com at the fashion gala.
"The line is very easy to wear. It is versatile and comfortable. The high point of the collection is that one can wear it like separates with whole lot of options to mix and match," said Nishka about the collection.
The collection has been inspired by the designer's travelling experiences and boasts of classic patterns and versatile pieces that can be worn to any occasion.
The designs have an eclectic mix of crop tops, dresses, trousers and jackets with fabrics that vary from cotton, crepe to organza.
The pastel colour palette ranges from minty greens and ice cream sundae pinks to muted greys and soft lavender.
Sharing the idea of collaborating with the site, she said that it was an attempt to reach a bigger market of people who shop online.
"I was very excited when I got to hear about the concept by Anjana Sharma (the woman behind Stylista.com). I felt it would be a great platform for my collection to have a wider reach to the market at affordable price points. After all, who doesn't want to shop online nowadays," she said.
