Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Thursday that poll surveys mean little to him.

The chief minister was responding to queries after a cabinet meeting, when one reporter pointed out that a voter survey carried out by a television news channel showed that the Congress-led United Democratic Front's (UDF) tally in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls would fall from 16 to seven. Kerala accounts for 20 seats in the Lok Sabha.

"I don't believe in such things. Instead, I have full faith in the people of the state. We will see," Chandy said.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the UDF swept the polls after it was washed out in the 2004 polls. In 2004, the UDF only managed one seat.

Incidentally, following the washout of the UDF in 2004, Chandy replaced A.K.Antony who now serves as the nation's defence minister, as chief minister of Kerala.
