Following the high heels row at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival, popular Indian fashion designer, stylist and costume designer Aki Narula has joked that if he gets a chance to attend the gala, he'd love to slip into a pair of stilettos.

Some women were reportedly turned away from a film premiere for not wearing high heels at the extravaganza, happening at the French Riviera since May 13.

"When I go to Cannes, I am going to wear stilettos," Narula, who has styled Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, joked about the incident.

"I love high heels. It's sexy, it gives certain body language to the wearer... the whole garment changes. Personally, I am in a big favour of high heels as opposed to flats, but I don't agree with the judgement that has just come up with at Cannes," the fashion designer, who was in the capital for the launch of 'Disney by Anouk' collection on Thursday, told IANS.

Soon after the news of the high heel issue surfaced, the festival's organisers said there was no such "rule" for the red carpet.

Narula was all praise for Indian faces like Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who walked on the red carpet at Cannes as L'Oreal Paris brand ambassadors.

"I think our girls did very well this time. I was very happy with Aishwarya and Sonam. Aishwarya was bang on this time. She was fantastic," said Narula.

He also said that it is not necessary for Indian celebrities to don the six-yard wonder at international platforms.

"Most importantly, you are representing yourself. If people from Japan attend international events, they don't wear kimonos there. I think people here are just pushing it too hard on why aren't people wearing saris or why aren't people wearing Indian fabrics.

"You just have to be true and honest to yourself...what looks great on your body... you need to look comfortable, you need to look sexy, you need to talk about your personality. It shouldn't be 'Oh beautiful gown', but doesn't look right on the person," he said.
