The Indian Air Force continued its rescue efforts in quake-hit Nepal on Monday, evacuating 61 people from affected areas, officials said.

A total of 37 sorties were carried out, while evacuating four casualties, and 19 tonnes of relief material carried, the officials said.

Indian armed forces have been assisting relief and rescue efforts in Nepal since an earthquake measuring 7.3 on Richter scale hit the Himalayan nation on April 25.

The most affected areas where casualty evacuations were carried in the past few days are Chautara, Charkot, Dhading, Melum, Lukla, Aroghat, Dhunche, Trishuli, Ramchap, Barpak, Narayan Chor, Namchi Bazar and Tatopani.

IAF officials said transport and helicopter aircraft are being utilised extensively for human assistance disaster relief (HADR) operations.
