The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) has established advanced coating technologies to prevent corrosion in critical equipment operating at very high temperature, said a top official.

Speaking at the International Corrosion Awareness Day (ICAD) function A.K. Bhaduri, Director, IGCAR, said one of the serious corrosion issues is damage of critical components at high temperatures in a variety of media like water, sodium, nitric acid, molten salts and others.

He said high temperature corrosion of critical components operating at high temperature was well controlled by establishing advanced coating technologies developed at IGCAR.

These technologies like hard-facing, plasma spray coatings, diffusion coatings, claddings and others were established by following international standards and codes, Bhaduri said.

The function was organised by NACE International Gateway India Section (NIGIS) South Zone here on Friday, said a statement issued on Saturday.

R. Sivakumar, Director, Combat Vehicle Research & Development Establishment, highlighted the importance of corrosion prevention in the defence sector and the application of various coating technologies in the development of the Arjun Main Battle Tank.
