An income tax official and a chartered accountant, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for bribery, were on Thursday sent to two days police custody by a court here, an official said.
The CBI on Wednesday night arrested income tax officer Prithvi Raj Meena and charted accountant Deepak Agarwal. On Thursday, both were presented before Special Judge Praveen Singh, who allowed CBI to quiz them till February 27.
The arrest followed a complaint by Gurgaon-based Square 9 Inn hotel's owner Krishan Kumar against both accused with the CBI on February 22.
Kumar has alleged that he received a notice on September 15, 2015 for income tax assessment of his firm for the year 2013-2014 from the Delhi's income tax office. Kumar contacted Agarwal, who advised him that the matter can be settled by paying a bribe of Rs.5 lakh to Meena.
Kumar, who did not pay a bribe, complained to the CBI, who laid a trap, arrested Meena and recovered Rs. 3 lakh from his possession.
