As it continues in its attempt for membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), India on Monday reiterated at the International Atomic Energy Agency meeting in Austria that it is committed to global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
"Spoke at the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Security in Vienna today," Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar tweeted.
"Reiterated India's commitment to global nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy," he said in a series of tweets.
"India has always held that nuclear security is the domain of national sovereignty but national prerogative demands national responsibility."
India's bid for NSG membership was thwarted by China in the 48-nation bloc's plenary in Seoul in June this year on the ground that for a nation to be a part of this group it should be a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
India and China has been engaging on this issue since then.
