There should be a National Hypertension Day which should be observed once a year to highlight its dangers, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said Saturday.
Citing a sedentary lifestyle as one of the causes of hypertension, Harsh Vardhan said that more resources would be used for raising public awareness about preventive measures and early diagnosis.
He was speaking at the 23rd Annual Conference of the Hypertension Society of India.
"I am preparing the ministry to meet the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCD)," he said.
"Hypertension, diabetes, cancers, coronary artery disease, etc. are projected by WHO as the biggest gnawers of our public health budget in the next decade," he added.
