India's UN Mission has started action to have June 21 declared the International Day of Yoga, following the proposal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the General Assembly (UNGA) last month.
Calling Yoga a "concrete manifestations of globalisation", Indian diplomat Prakash Gupta appealed Monday for support to the initiative.
"Yoga offers a holistic approach to health and well being globally," the First Secretary at the India's UN Mission said during a UNGA discussion on "Sports for Peace Development".
He quoted from Modi's speech that yoga promotes "harmony between man and nature" and "by changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change".
