India's first institute dedicated to education and research in the renewable energy sector will soon aid Peru and Mexico in improving their water supply schemes, the institutes's head said Tuesday.

The Latin American countries would utilise the technical expertise of Arka IGNOU Community College of Renewable Energy here in setting up solar micro pumps to ensure a steady supply of water in rural areas, head of the college S.P. Gon Chaudhuri told IANS.

"Nearly 2.7 million people in Mexico do not have access to water facilities. Micro pumps are capable of producing water round the clock. The project is aimed at supplying water to hospitals and toilets in rural areas of these countries," said Chaudhuri, who developed the device.

A solar micro pump has been successfully stalled at a hospital in the Sunderbans, world's largest mangrove forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The constituents of the unit will be sourced by Peru and Mexico from other countries as per Chaudhuri's recommendations.

"The project report containing the technical specifications will be ready in about two months following which they will start the venture," Chaudhuri added.
