Indian army chief visits LoC, reviews security in Kashmir

Indian army chief, Gen. Dalbir Singh Monday visited forward posts on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and also reviewed the overall security situation in the Valley, an official said here.

Defence spokesman, Col. N.N. Joshi said that the chief of army staff visited Kashmir "to review the overall security situation obtaining in the Valley" and visited the forward posts in the Tangdhar and Machil sectors and the Dagger Division at Baramulla.

On arrival at Srinagar, the COAS was received by Northern Army chief Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda and Chinar Corps commander Lt.Gen. Subrata Saha.

"The COAS then visited the forward posts in Tangdhar and Machil Sectors on the LoC and also visited the Dagger Division headquarters at Baramulla. At each location, the COAS was briefed by the commanders in the field about the situation along the Line of Control and the hinterland.

"The COAS was apprised in detail about the robust counter infiltration grid. He appreciated the effectiveness of the grid and the much higher success rate this year in neutralizing infiltration attempts, which had contributed significantly towards ensuring a secure environment in Kashmir," said Col. Joshi.

The army chief also inspected the recoveries of weapons, IEDs and caches and "complimented the commanders on the high level of integration achieved" with the state police and the central armed paramilitary forces, he said.

Gen. Singh also expressed his satisfaction with "the efforts put in for resource mobilization, innovative surveillance techniques and other security measures which were showing excellent results. The COAS also interacted with the troops and expressed his happiness at the high state of morale and operational preparedness displayed by them", the spokesman added.
