Indian fashion designer Rosy Ahluwalia is set to take her 'Women Power' collection to New York to showcase it as part of The Splendid India Fashion Closet Tour 2014.
The Splendid India Fashion Closet Tour is a fashion event showcasing Indian couture, luxury fashion and pret lines by some of the country's designers. This year, the event is slated to happen in New York July 12 and in Los Angeles July 18.
Ahluwalia's collection has ethnic and western women wear in shades of green, gold and red. It comprises floor-length anarkalis, skirts and gowns enhanced by use of gota, zardozi and Swarovski work. The fabrics used are georgette, net and silk.
"I have chosen three colours to depict the power of women. Green depicts Mother Nature and Earth. Gold showcases richness and the power to rule like a woman who can be soft but when required can stand up to fight for her dynasty.
"Red, the colour of vermillion, symbolises a married woman in India who has the capability of being a wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister, and daughter," the designer said in a statement.
The unveiling of the collection will take place at Taj Pierre Hotel, New York.
Ahluwalia was awarded emerging designer of the year in India Fashion Summit - 2012 Fashion Awards.
