Over 40 Indian companies showcased their technology at the India Sugar Expo in Surabaya, capital of East Java, in Indonesia this week.
There is huge gap in consumption and production in Indonesia, causing the country to import sugar. One of the major reasons for low production is the lack of adoption of latest technology by the Indonesian sugar industry, which is in need of modernisation.
The India Sugar Expo held May 21-22 offered an opportunity to the Indonesian sugar industry to take advantage of the Indian technology and experience to upgrade their industry and boost production.
India ranks second in the world sugar output, producing nearly 15 percent of the world's sugar. With this prominent agro-based industry, India plays a leading role in the global sugar market.
The Expo was organised by the Sugar Technologists' Association of India (STAI), in cooperation with the Indian embassy.
