The Indian women's squash team settled for silver after being tamed 0-2 by the defending champions Malaysia in the final of the 17th Asian Games at the Yeorumul Squash Courts here Saturday.

Anaka Alankamony and Dipika Pallikal lost their respective matches in straight games as Malaysia came out on top against the Indian team, who improved their bronze medal finish at the 2010 Asiad.

In the first rubber of the final, Anaka fought hard in the first two games against Delia Arnold before losing 9-11, 10-12 but the Malaysian literally toyed with the Indian to win the third game 11-2 in just eight minutes to give her team 1-0 lead.

Dipika, who won the singles bronze, had no answer to the pressure exerted by the world No.1 Nicol David.

The Indian was thrashed 0-3 (7-11, 6-11, 3-11) by Nicol in just 29 minutes.

Indian squash contingent is set for its best-ever Asiad performance with the men's team, who have assured at least the silver, competing in the gold medal match against Malaysia later in the day.

In the previous edition of the Asiad in Guangzhou, the squash team contributed three medals - all of them bronze - to India's tally of 65.
