Two Indian men have been put on trial for trying to steal power cables worth over 143,000 dirhams (about $38,900) by breaking into an electricity station here.
The court of first instance in Dubai has charged the men, both aged 30, with attempted robbery by using a sharp weapon and damaging public property.
The duo, who worked as labourers, broke open the door of an electricity station of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) at Al Twar in the Al Qusais area here and cut the power cables worth 143,980 dirhams, Khaleej Times reported.
However, they were arrested shortly after early morning of March 2 after an Arab man saw them putting the stolen cables in carton boxes they had brought with them and alerted the police.
The duo later confessed that they had pre-planned the robbery and had broken open the lock of the power station with a large pair of scissors.
