Indonesian varsity seeks tie-up with AMU

A six-member delegation of the State Islamic University of Indonesia Friday visited the Aligarh Muslim University and discussed the possibility of greater cooperation in study and research between the two countries.

A student exchange programme was agreed upon by the two universities.

The Education Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in India, Engineer Son Kuswadi, said Aligarh Muslim University was highly regarded in Indonesia. He recalled that the first Indonesian vice president Mohammad Hatta had also visited AMU in 1955. He said many Indonesian students who studied in AMU rose in position to serve their country.

Kuswadi said there were many students in Indonesia who wished to study in India, especially at AMU.

Rohimin, dean of the State Islamic University of Indonesia, pointed out that there were particular areas of study like Islamic Finance, Islamic Banking, Islamic Theology and Islamic Studies in which student exchange progarmmes could be undertaken.

Brig (retd) S. Ahmad Ali, pro-vice Chancellor of AMU, introduced the Indonesian delegation to the university and highlighted specific areas of mutual interest.
