The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold a meeting here on October 8 to review the performance of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), it was announced on Wednesday.

"Discussions will focus on the protection of clean athletes and, more specifically, on a review of the WADA anti-doping system. The Olympic Summit will discuss some principles for a more robust, more efficient and more independent worldwide anti-doping system," said the note.

The IOC added it intends "reinforcement" of the request of the Olympic summit in October 2015 to "make the entire anti-doping system independent from sports organisations", reports Efe.

At the summit a first analysis of the "success of the Olympic Games Rio 2016" will also be held.

The event will be attended by various sports officials including IOC's German president Thomas Bach, FIFA's Swiss president Gianni Infantino, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) chairman Sebastian Coe and the presidents of the Olympic Committees of the United States, Russia and China, among others.
