Iranian government has welcomed the efforts being made for starting direct flights between Tehran and Washington.

"We don't have any problem in this regard," reported Xinhua citing Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi, adding that many Iranians were living in the US and it would be easy for them to travel between the two capitals.

On Monday, local media reported there were some attempts underway by some agents for the establishment of direct flights between the two countries.

The US broke off diplomatic relations with Iran April 7, 1980, after a group of Iranian students seized the US embassy and captured some 60 US diplomats in 1979. Among the diplomats 52 were held captive for 444 days in the hostage crisis.

The expatriate Iranians as well as some reformists inside the country have been urging the officials of the Islamic republic to start normalising relations with the US as a major step toward solving the country's nuclear issue.

After the moderate president-elect Hassan Rouhani won Iran's presidential race June 14, hopes have been raised among the Iranians for a probable breakthrough in the nuclear standoff and also an ease in the economic hardships in their lives.
