Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has tied up with Paytm to offer an additional payment gateway for food ordered through its e-catering facility.
"We have roped in leading payment and e-commerce player Paytm for providing maximum options to passengers for making online payments. Efforts are underway to bring in some more reputed caterers in our e-catering portfolio," said IRCTC chairman and MD A.K. Manocha in a statement on Wednesday.
"In the new age, we have to offer passengers not only novel food options but also more convenient payment methods. The arrangement with Paytm is an effort in that direction," said Manocha.
To enable railway passengers to order food, IRCTC sends an email to passengers one day in advance about food order, which can also be placed during ticket reservations.
On an average, IRCTC clocks 5.5 to six lakh e-catering bookings daily.
"IRCTC has created a user-friendly website and has been sending SMSes, emails and pop-ups to all e-ticket passengers," Manocha added.
IRCTC offers e-catering facility in 1,516 pantryless trains and station-based 'Food on Track' facility at 45 railway stations across India.
