A group commander of the Islamic State was among a few more insurgents that have been killed in the eastern Nangarhar province, spokesman for the provincial police, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal, told reporters here on Thursday.
Units of police backed by the army, according to Xinhua news agency, raided IS hideout in Dashna Lagat village of Achin district on Wednesday night, killing a few insurgents including a group commander named Jahid. He did not give exact number of casualties inflicted to IS.
Jahid, according to the police chief, was commandant of a 20-member group and his physical elimination is a major setback to the hardliner outfit.
Militants affiliated to IS group were yet to make comment.
Parts of Nangarhar province including Achin, Kot and Pachiragam have been the scene of IS activities over the past nearly two years.
