Jerusalem, Sep 18 (IANS/EFE) Israel has provided the US with intelligence about the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, a senior officer in the Israeli Defence Forces confirmed Thursday.
The officer, who was quoted by the Israeli daily Haaretz, said the IS was not an easy group to combat because it has thousands of fighters and good financing.
"They are not going to disappear. But right now, they will apparently hunker down in preparation for an American attack on them," he added.
The Israeli Defence Forces estimate that the radical organisation has about 30,000 fighters and makes between $1 million and $3 million a day by smuggling crude oil it extracts from the 60 oil wells under its control.
International media reported earlier this week that the intelligence was passed by the US to its Arab allies after removing all traces that could lead to the Israeli secret services.
