Filmmaker Kabir Khan's espionage drama "Phantom", based on events post-26/11 Mumbai terror attack, has minted Rs.33.18 crore in its opening weekend.

The Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer released on Friday and minted Rs.8.46 crore on its opening day. The film witnessed a good growth on Saturday and Sunday by collecting Rs.12.78 crore and Rs.11.94 crore, respectively, thus taking its cumulative total to Rs.33.18 crore, read a statement from the production house.

With no big release along with it, "Phantom" is expected to have a good week ahead due to the buzz around the movie.

"Phantom", which revolves around global terrorism, is an adaptation of the novel "Mumbai Avengers". The film was banned in Pakistan following a petition by Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the mastermind behind the Mumbai mayhem.

The Mumbai terror attack saw terrorists from Pakistan sneak into Mumbai in November 2008 and launch a killing spree, leaving at least 166 people dead.
