The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Wednesday approved monetary benefits to Kashmir Police Service (KPS) officers without rank promotions.
"Accepting its sub-committee's recommendations, the Cabinet has approved provision of monetary benefits to KPS officers," an official statement said.
The state-cadre police officers' demand for promotions to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Inspector General (IG) ranks has, however, not been met.
At present, rank promotions to KPS officers to DIG and IG ranks is possible only if they are inducted into the Indian Police Service.
Since KPS has not been classified as a state-cadre service in the state, a KPS officer can only rise to the rank of a Senior Superintendent of Police, leading to grievance among KPS officers.
The KPS officers rue that inductions from the KPS into the IPS to fill up 50 vacancies have not been made in 15 years, which is unfair for the state police whose rank and file have been making the supreme sacrifice for the country.
