J&K governor reviews security ahead of Panchayat polls

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Friday reviewed security arrangements ahead of panchayat polls in the state.

"In a meeting attended by senior civil, police, central armed forces, the Army, state and Central intelligence agencies, the Governor undertook a detailed review of security management-related issues at Raj Bhavan," said an official statement.

"The Governor obtained the sector-wise assessments of the prevailing security situation and arising challenges.

"He emphasized the crucial importance of maintaining a sustained close watch on the ground situation and appreciated the sustained real time coordination and synergy between security forces and the civil administration", the statement said.

The Governor stressed the need of a heightened vigil for ensuring the safety of protected persons and the security of all-important establishments and installations.

"He appreciated the manner in which the security forces and civil administration of Kishtwar district handled law and order situation in the region in the aftermath of killing of two political leaders," the statement said.

"The meeting discussed security arrangements made for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming elections to the panchayats and the need of a safe environment for the elections.

"The Governor lauded the role of civil administration and the security forces in the incident-free conduct of polls to the urban local dodies," said the statement.

The meeting was attended by advisor, K. Vijay Kumar, state chief secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyan, Director General police (DGP), Dilbag Singh, Army commander, Lieutenant general, Ranbir Singh, senior officers of Central armed forces and senior officers of state and central intelligence agencies.
