Actor James Franco is set to remake 1996 telepic "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?"
Cable network NBC announced on Monday that Franco would serve as an executive producer along with Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno, reports aceshowbiz.com.
The critically-panned cult classic starred Tori Spelling as a young girl who has a dream boyfriend, played by Ivan Sergei, but is concerned about his obsession of her. Franco will give a new story to be penned by Amber Coney. Melanie Aitkenhead is directing the TV movie.
The remake will be aired on cable channel Lifetime sometime next year to coincide the TV movie's 20th anniversary.
It is not yet clear whether Franco will appear in front of the camera for the project, since no casting has been announced. Sergei has expressed interest in getting involved in the remake, tweeting: "All (sic) I can say is... I'm in."
The remake was originally meant for stage adaptation but the project did not find a distributor.
