Japan's unemployment rate in September improved 0.1 percent from 4.1 percent in August to 4.0 percent, the government said Tuesday.

The number of unemployed people declined a seasonally adjusted 3.3 percent from previous month to 2.63 million, the internal affairs and communications ministry said in a preliminary report, citing companies are willing to hire more workers as the main reason behind it, Xinhua reported.

According to the report, those quitting jobs on their own was down 7.1 percent to 920,000 in the reporting period.

The construction sector added 270,000 jobs on monthly basis while agriculture and forestry added 230,000 and manufacturers cut 180,000 jobs, the ministry said.

Separate data showed the nation's job availability was flat. The ratio of employment offers to seekers was unchanged at 0.95 from August, which means 95 positions were available for every 100 job seekers.
