Tokyo stocks opened higher on Wednesday following Wall Street's solid lead overnight.
As of 9:15 am local time (5:45 am IST), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 207.86 points, or 1.00 percent, from Tuesday to 21,072.07, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.11 points, or 0.77 percent, to 1,584.71.
Mining, securities house, pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
