Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday condoled the death of veteran Communist Party of India leader A.B. Bardhan.
His demise is a great and irreparable loss to India's political firmament, she said, adding that she was deeply saddened by his demise.
"In his long political career, Shri A.B. Bardhan distinguished himself by his selfless service to the cause of the working classes, the poor and the deprived," she said in a statement here.
At various turning points in India's recent political history, Bardhan's ability to negotiate and bring various political forces together played a significant role, she added.
Terming Bardhan the epitome of political decency and selfless service, Jayalalithaa said she had the privilege of sharing public platforms with him on several occasions.
In his statement, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said Bardhan's death is a great loss to the communist movement in the country.
