Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday congratulated Chennai-born Sundar Pichai on being appointed Google's chief executive officer.
In a letter to Pichai, the text of which was released to the media here, she said: "It is a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu that a person with roots in the state has attained such a high position in a highly competitive environment through ability and dint of hard work."
Jayalalithaa said Pichai has set a wonderful example for the youth of the state.
The 43-year-old Pichai, an IIT Kharagpur, graduate, is the second person of Indian-origin to head an IT company after Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella, who became the CEO of software giant Microsoft in February 2014.
