The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the city government to file its response on the parole plea of Manu Sharma, who is serving a life term in the Jessica Lal murder case, so that he could appear in his law exams.

Justice Ashutosh Kumar sought response from the Delhi government by December 4 on Sharma's plea for a month's parole.

Sharma, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Law (LLB) course from Annamalai University, said his exams will commence from December 26.

Sharma, 36, who is serving a life sentence in New Delhi for killing ramp model Jessica Lal in a bar in 1999, was jailed by the high court in December 2006. The life term was upheld by the Supreme Court.

The 34-year-old Jessica Lal, who was working as a celebrity waitress, was shot dead on April 29, 1999, by Sharma at the Tamarind Court restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani in south Delhi's Mehrauli area after she refused to serve him drinks.
