Indian private carrier Jet Airways has increased its frequency on the Kathmandu-Delhi sector by launching a third daily flight, the airline announced here.

The carrier now operates three daily flights on the Kathmandu-Delhi sector effective Friday and two daily flights on the Kathmandu-Mumbai sector.

Kathmandu is becoming an important market for Jet with ever growing number of migrant workers to the Gulf and other countries who use it for connecting flights to their destination countries.

"Nepali workers going abroad are the largest passenger base for us, but the number of corporates, tourists and passengers visiting friends and relatives flying with us are also growing," Samir Chada, country manager of Jet Airways in Nepal, said.

"Around 900 passengers from Kathmandu fly with the airline daily on an average. The five daily flights from Kathmandu are a landmark achievement for us," he added.

Jet Airways took the second position in passenger carriers in 2013 in Nepal. It flew 314,462 passengers last year, up 7.75 percent. Jet holds a 37 percent share of the total passenger occupancy among Indian carriers.

"The occupancy rate of each flight stands at around 80 to 90 percent, making Kathmandu one of the biggest in the South Asia markets for the airline," said Chada.
