The mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed on Tuesday said she had no faith in the police search conducted at the campus to locate her son.

Fatima Nafees told CNN News 18 that the search operation was mounted after all the evidence had been wiped out.

It should have been carried out in the first week after Najeeb disappeared over two months ago, she said.

"When we filed a complaint, we said repeatedly 'get sniffer dogs for a search operation'," she said.

But police officers then said they were trying out other ways to trace Najeeb, Fatima Nafees said.

"Yesterday (Monday), when a dog sniffed the old clothes of Najeeb, it did not respond. The smell was gone.

"The dog handler told us that the activity now was useless since it has been 65 days. All evidence is gone. It should have been done in the first week."

The anguished mother said she wrote to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, who controls Delhi Police, pleading for a dog squad to be pressed into service early on but he "did not do anything".

"All this is happening due to the Delhi High Court's order. I am sure I will get justice. My son will be back," she said.

Najeeb went missing on October 15 following a scuffle the previous night with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP). The ABVP has denied any involvement in Najeeb's disappearance.

Without mentioning the ABVP, Fatima Nafees said: "I Know they have kidnapped Najeeb."
