Jordan said Tuesday it summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman after Israel installed surveillance cameras at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan voiced its rejection of the move to the Israeli ambassador and asked Israel to immediately remove the cameras, Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

"The installation of these cameras is a stark violation of the freedom of worship and interferes in the affairs of Jordan, which is in charge of protecting the worshippers and visitors to the mosque," said the minister, adding that such measures "provoke all Muslims."

The minister also called on Israel to prevent the radical Jewish groups from entering the mosque, stressing that their admittance contradicts efforts to attain peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
