Jean-Claude Juncker was Friday nominated as the next European Commission president .
Juncker was nominated by EU leaders at a summit in this Belgian capital, Xinhua reported.
"Decision made. The European Council proposes Jean-Claude Juncker as the next President of the European Commission," incumbent Herman Van Rompuy said on Twitter.
Juncker was the lead candidate of the European People's Party (EPP), which led the 2014 European Parliament elections 221 of the 751 seats, followed by the Socialists and Democrats(S&D) group with 191 seats.
