Senior IPS officer K.K. Rao was on Tuesday named Gurugram's new Commissioner of Police and will take charge on Wednesday, an official said.

The 1996 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was currently posted as Inspector General of Police, India Reserve Battalion, Bhondsi.

"I will take charge of my new responsibility on Wednesday," Rao said, adding that he will study the overall situation of Gurugram, the numbers, kind and categories of crimes happening in the city adjoining national capital Delhi and will formulate his priorities.

Sandeep Khirwar, who was currently in the post, has been made the Inspector General of Police, Rohtak range, succeeding Navdeep Singh Virk, who will now take over as Inspector General of Police, Karnal Range.

The changes were part of transfer and posting of eight senior police officers, including the Gurugram and Panchkula police chiefs, issued by the Haryana government on Tuesday.
